Lament

In the poem “Lament”, one aspect of style which effectively conveys the idea of sadness is the use of simile. A simile is a figure of speech that directly compares two things, which sparks the imagination of the readers that the poem is about sadness or longing.  It helps the author’s message to be conveyed to the readers clearly. This is shown in ‘Seagulls flock like angels in the distance waiting for a catch.’ It effectively sparks the imagination of the readers that Buck is gone and is longing for Buck.
